Aroldis Chapman

Now, the hate for Chapman exists both on and off the baseball field. In 2015, he was involved in an alleged domestic violence incident. Prior to the incident, most people enjoyed Chapman. He was the fiery closer who threw flames disguised as baseballs. You knew what he was throwing and you simply couldn’t hit it. Maybe you didn’t like him because he was a bit of a showboater, but his flair made him stand out in a game as boring as baseball.

Following this report, everyone turned against Chapman.

Now, the only people who like Chapman are Yankees fans. They are a forgiving fanbase, those Yankees fans.

Cubs fans in particular can’t stand him. He was traded from the Yankees to the Cubs for top prospect Gleyber Torres in 2016. He had a disappointing playoffs, but still helped the team to their first World Series in forever. Instead of re-signing with the Cubs or going anywhere else…he went back to the Yankees.

If you’re a conspiracy theorist, there’s a major conspiracy in play. I’m a believer that a player should not be allowed to re-sign with a team that trades him in the offseason. And if they do, they do, the initial trade becomes undone. This will never happen. No one will ever enforce this. But it should happen to prevent situations like the Chapman for Torres deal.

Anyway, Chapman. Yankees fans like him. That’s all you need to know.
