Corey Perry

He’s nicknamed among some circles as Crying Perry. Yes, this is the second NHL player on the list. And yes, this is the second NHL player who has a nickname with the word “cry” in it. No one ever said NHL fans are all that original.

Here’s what you need to know about Perry: He started a fight with Pavel Datsyuk.

As a Colorado Avalanche fan, I’m chemically required to dislike the Detroit Red Wings. Granted, the rivalry isn’t what it used to be (thanks, NHL re-alignment), but it’s still the greatest NHL rivalry of the ’90s and early ’00s. Despite the rivalry, I love me some Pavel Datsyuk. He’s a fantastic player, plays the right way, and is a nice guy. Maybe “love” is too strong. I appreciate the talent of Mr. Datysuk.

Perry is so annoying that Datysuk fought him.

It goes beyond fighting Datsyuk, though. He’s a dirty player. Whether he’s falling over goaltenders, spearing guys in the groin, or head-hunting. He’s always looking to take out the best player on your team. The most dangerous lead in hockey is a lead in the final minute against the Anaheim Ducks because Perry is a threat to injure your star.

On top of that, he embellishes calls. It’s commonplace in hockey, more than hockey fans are willing to admit, but it’s also frowned up. The sport is known for “tough guys who don’t fake injuries.” When Perry is lying on the ice after a small shove, the sports reputation takes a hit.

Just don’t tell anyone of this to Anaheim fans.
