Buffalo Bills: Offseason fantasy outlook
Quarterback – A.J. McCarron, Josh Allen, Nathan Peterman
I’ve mentioned it a few times before but the quarterback position is absolutely loaded for fantasy football this season. The Bills are likely not one of the teams that boasts a fantasy relevant quarterback, however. McCarron might be a decent NFL quarterback but he has 133 passing attempts in his entire career.
It’s unknown how long a leash he’ll have as well. Josh Allen should probably sit for a year because it would appear his learning curve for the NFL will be steep. A debate raged for months about Allen’s talent level. There was one side that said he didn’t have enough weapons at Wyoming. That’s fair, but he also won’t have a ton in Buffalo either. barring some unforeseen developments, this position won’t be needed for fantasy too often, if at all.
Running Back – LeSean McCoy, Chris Ivory Travaris Cadet
If you’re playing in a regular redraft league, LeSean McCoy is a pretty nice value at this point in drafts. He’s barely within the top 20 overall and he’s generally been outside the top 12 in running backs drafted. There is concern about his age and how many career touches he has logged over his career.
However, it’s impossible to predict injuries in football. McCoy is going to be the main component in the offense. The receivers aren’t the best group in the league so McCoy should have plenty of involvement in the passing game. The touchdown upside might not be the highest but you’re not paying the typical premium for McCoy. He’s been right around the top 10 or so for years.
If McCoy gets injured, Ivory is going to be most popular players on the waiver wire the following week. Ivory might see a little bit of goal line work even if McCoy stays healthy the entire season. It wouldn’t make him fantasy relevant but it will probably annoy the McCoy owners to no end. Cadet would probably be the exclusive passing down back in partnership with Ivory if McCoy goes down. If you’re picking around 16-20 in your draft, it might be hard to pass up LeSean McCoy.
