4. Jaccob Slavin

Defense is a position of strength for the Carolina Hurricanes organization. They have a solid six group already in the NHL and even more help on the way. Prospects such as Jake Bean, Haydn Fleury and Roland Mckeown will make Jaccob Slavin available. He came on strong the last two seasons after being a fourth-round pick in 2012. In his three-year career, he has picked up 30 points twice and is getting better every year.  His next contract is set to kick in next season, he will carry a $5.3-million-dollar cap hit. It is not a huge number, but it could put some teams out of the running. Don Waddell will be tempted to move Slavin because he will get a great return.

The New Jersey Devils are a young team that surprised the entire league this season by making the playoffs. They are built to be good for a long time. There are some good pieces in their forward pipeline. Top pick Nico Hischier had a strong rookie campaign and is surrounded by other nice complementary pieces. The one place the Devils need to improve to be more complete is on defense. They have good players like Will Butcher, Sami Vatanen and Damon Severson but at the same time they would like to improve from players like Ben Lovejoy, John Moore and Andy Greene can’t play forever. Adding Jaccob Slavin would give them another layer of offense on the blue line with Will Butcher and give them a long-term answer on the left side.
