Gerard has competed in the X Games three times most recently in Aspen in 2018, where he placed fourth in slopestyle. He also competed twice in 2017 both in Norway and Aspen, where he placed ninth and 14th, respectively.

Gerard also represented Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and took home the first gold medal for the team — and the first-ever Olympic gold medal in the sport. He became the youngest snowboarder from any nation to earn a gold medal.
