FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Saturday, May 19
Yankees at Royals
Yankees Probable Starter – Luis Severino, RHP
2.14 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 30.8 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .175 average, .242 wOBA, 35.6 fly ball rate and 33.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .189 average, .217 wOBA, 32.0 fly ball rate and 26.8 hard contact rate
I think I would play Corbin over Severino tonight. The Royals are still last in baseball in strikeout rate to righties and that makes it harder to justify paying an extra $500 over Corbin due to that factor. Would I be surprised if Severino dominated tonight? Not in the least because he’s got a talent level that is off the charts. You have to take a stand on this game. You either fade this side totally, you can play Severino and hope for a bunch of strikeouts or you can go ultra against the grain and stack up the Royals.
Royals Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Mike Moustakas
Royals Probable Starter – Danny Duffy, LHP
6.51 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 18.7strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .194 average, .251 wOBA, 53.6 fly ball rate and 35.7 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .306 average, .417 wOBA, 42.9 fly ball rate and 40.2 hard contact rate
Even on a larger slate, the Yankees are probably going to be chalk tonight and for good reason. Duffy is giving up a massive amount of fly balls and that’s going to mix poorly with the Yankees power for the Royals. If you wanted to play Freddie Freeman, it’s hard not to say Giancarlo Stanton might have the edge at a couple hundred dollars more. Stanton is crushing lefties so far with a wOBA over .600 and a hard contact rate of 69.0. That’s insane and something I’m willing to chase even at very high price. I’m not sure if salary would work but a stack with Stanton, Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez could pay off handsomely.
Yankees Hitter to Target
Elite Options – Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez
Secondary Options – Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres
Home Run Pick – New York gets the full trio in action as Judge, Stanton and Sanchez all take Duffy out of the park
Rays at Angels
Rays Probable Starter – This is a little weird. The Rays are starting Sergio Romo but he’s only expected to handle an inning or two and then Ryan Yarbourgh. I’m passing on the Tampa situation and it’s a little harder to take any solace in the splits. Matchups won’t matter at all if the Rays just rotate pitchers. It’s a bullpen day for the Rays so just stick with the best hitters for the Angels or don’t mess with this game at all.
Angels Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Mike Trout
Secondary Options -Justin Upton, Shohei Ohtani
Angels Probable Starter – Andrew Heaney, LHP
3.93 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 27.9 strikeout rate
Vs LHH -.308 average, .315 wOBA, 23.5 fly ball rate and 16.7 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .231 average, .302 wOBA, 35.7 fly ball rate and 37.0 hard contact rate
On a smaller slate, Heaney would be someone to look at since he’s been pitching pretty well lately. Anyone coming off eight innings and 10 strikeouts against the Astros obviously has some talent. He’s scored at least 31 FanDuel points in four straight starts and could do it agains against this Rays team. C.J. Cron is a great play against a lefty but $4,200 is tough to pay. You could play someone like Anthony Rizzo in the same slot at basically the same price. A very interesting play could be Denard Span. Heaney has been reverse splits and Span hits lefties well despite being a lefty himself.
Rays Hitters to Target
Elite Options – C.J. Cron, Denard Span
Secondary Options – Wilson Ramos, Daniel Robertson
Home Run Pick – C.J. Cron
