FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Sunday, May 20
Padres at Pirates
Padres Probable Starter – Jordan Lyles, RHP
2.53 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 25.8 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .170 average, .256 wOBA, 50.0 fly ball rate and 32.4 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .179 average, .220 wOBA, 35.4 fly ball rate and 27.1 hard contact rate
Lyles himself actually makes a nice tournament play because the Pirates offense isn’t the most consistent, although the overall numbers are good. I can tell you as a Bucco fan, they have the tendency to disappear at times. The Pirates can also hang a crooked number on Lyles today so I’m interested in some bats. Austin Meadows is still bare minimum and it makes things easier to build the rest of the team. Other than that, I’d take players like Corey Dickerson and Colin Moran first and foremost. Gregory Polanco has a massive fly ball rat himself so he’s also in the mix today.
Pirates Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Corey Dickerson, Colin Moran
Secondary Options – Gregory Polanco, Austin Meadows, Adam Frazier
Pirates Probable Starter – Trevor Williams, RHP
2.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 16.6 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .223 average, .281 wOBA, 39.8 fly ball rate and 21.2 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .196 average, .283 wOBA, 43.5 fly ball rate and 32.4 hard contact rate
Williams is such a frustrating pitcher to try and project because there are so little strikeouts to fall back on if things get bumpy. The last time I played him, he scored under 20 points. I left him off the list his following start and he almost hit 50. He’s in the running as a tournament option today for the same reason Nick Kingham was last night – the Padres are awful by a lot of metrics against righties and are still leading baseball in strikeout rate against the handedness. I’m not going to go with any padres bats today.

Secondary Options – Travis Jankowski, Eric Hosmer, France Cordero
Home Run Pick – Gregory Polanco
Dodgers at Nationals
Dodgers Probable Starter – Alex Wood, LHP
3.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 22.7strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .309 average, .315 wOBA, 13.3 fly ball rate and 31.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .210 average, .246 wOBA, 33.1 fly ball rate and 34.2 hard contact rate
For this who didn’t hear it after news broke last night, the Nationals called up Uber-prospect Juan Soto to play the outfield. he’s not on this slate, but it should be fun to potentially play the young gun who’s just 19 years old. Since he’s not on the slate, the best play is Anthony Rendon. He’s always been good against lefties and Wood isn’t the most dominant player we’ve ever seen. At the same time, I’m certainly not going to stack Nationals against Wood today. I likely won’t even play Bryce Harper since Wood has such a low fly ball rate to lefty hitters.
Nationals Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Anthony Rendon
Secondary Options – Bryce Harper, Trea Turner
Nationals Probable Starter – Stephen Strasburg, RHP
3.28 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 28.2 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .222 average, .284 wOBA, 28.4 fly ball rate and 24.2 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .212 average, .274 wOBA, 33.9 fly ball rate and 38.7 hard contact rate
Strasburg is likely going to be chalk as far as cash games today and it’s hard to talk anyone off of that. Strasburg has been his typical self so far this season and he’s got a solid strikeout floor as well. The Dodgers offense is much better since Justin Turner returned this week but they’re going to have a hard time getting much going against the Nationals other ace pitcher. It’s certainly possible Strasburg has a bad game but I don’t think that’s going to happen. There’s really no Dodgers that seem all that attractive against Strasburg today.

Home Run Pick – Trea Turner
