4. Add another goaltender

Semyon Varlamov is expected at this point to be the No. 1 goalie for the Avalanche next season. When he went down with a injury late in the season, it presented a problem for the team. They tried to fill the void with Jonathan Bernier and Andrew Hammond.

The hope is that Varlamov stays healthy and plays to his potential. But injuries have plagued him throughout his career.

Colorado needs a better backup goaltender who can step in when needed, and they need to acquire him through the draft or a trade.

There are not too many options to choose from in free agency. Jaroslav Halak or Cam Ward could make nice additions. Even re-signing Andrew Hammond would provide some much-needed depth.

Goalies will be sought-after pieces for many teams. Especially Colorado, which knows it doesn’t have what it needs right now. It doesn’t hurt to have options.
