5. Adrian Beltre

The big third basemen started his career with the Dodgers almost 20 years ago. The team should really consider bringing him back to finish his career in LA as well.

Beltre’s lost some power over the years, but he still does a good job hitting for average. He’s hitting .314 this season for the Rangers. That’s just above the .312 mark he posted for Texas last season. In other words, this is not a player whose performance is benefitting from small sample size.

At 39 years of age he’s clearly not going to be a long-term solution for the club. He might be able to play another season or two but that’s about it. The upside of that is he won’t cost them a ton in a trade. The Rangers would likely let him go in exchange for a mid-tier prospect.

He also wouldn’t tie up the Dodgers’ payroll for a long period of time. Beltre is a player they can acquire this season for a short-term bump. while still maintaining maximum flexibility for the future. Someone looking to contend is going to pick up Adrian Beltre this season. The Dodgers should make sure they bring him back to the place his career began.
