FanDuel Picks and Lineup for Tuesday, May 22
Yankees at Rangers
Yankees Probable Starter – Domingo German, RHP
4.26 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 26.7 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .160 average, .216 wOBA, 39.5 fly ball rate and 28.9 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .279 average, .353 wOBA, 33.3 fly ball rate and 44.4 hard contact rate
The Rangers lineup is chock full of lefties and they strike out quite a bit but I still wouldn’t use German tonight. He got lit up by the A’s last time out and he’s been in and out of the bullpen so far this season. Joey Gallo is always in play against a mediocre pitcher but Delino DeShields is super interesting at his price point. I wouldn’t put a ton of stock into these splits so Nomar Mazara and Shin-soo Choo are in play as well.
Rangers Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Joey Gallo, Nomar Mazara, Delino DeShields
Secondary Options – Shin-soo Choo, Jurickson Profar
Rangers Probable Starter – Cole Hamels, LHP
3.48 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 25.1 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .278 average, .338 wOBA, 38.5 fly ball rate and 34.6 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .215 average, .322 wOBA, 35.3 fly ball rate and 45.7 hard contact rate
New York hung 10 runs on the Rangers last night and that could be the same result again tonight. Hamels has been a lot better than I thought before the season began but I don’t think he’s got what it takes to handle this Yankee lineup. He does have reverse splits so far this season and that would normally lead me to Didi Gregorius. The issue is he’s so ice cold it’s hard to get behind him as a good play. All the big names for the Bronx Bombers are in play and be sure to not forget about Tyler Austin. He’s relatively inexpensive and rates out pretty well against lefties.
Yankees Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez
Secondary Options – Aaron Hicks, Tyler Austin
Home Run Pick – Tyler Austin and Gray Sanchez
Orioles at White Sox
Orioles Probable Starter – Kevin Gausman, RHP
3.88 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 20.4 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .221 average, .304 wOBA, 38.6 fly ball rate and 27.8 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .288 average, .337wOBA, 30.0 fly ball rate and 37.0 hard contact rate
Gausman has displayed reverse splits so far this year but I really don’t have a ton of interest in the White Sox tonight. The righties are a tad expensive with Jose Abreu at $3,800 and Matt Davidson at $3,500. I’d have thought Tim Anderson could be a sneaky play but not at $3,100. Gausman has been pretty effective so far this season. Don’t put much stock into his point total from his last start since it came in Boston. $8,300 isn’t terrible, but this side of the game seems like a fade to me.
White Sox Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada
Secondary Options -Matt Davidson
White Sox Probable Starter – James Shields, RHP
4.88 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 15.3 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .188 average, .267 wOBA, 36.3 fly ball rate and 24.7 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .257 average, .312 wOBA, 42.2 fly ball rate and 36.6 hard contact rate
I’m still coming to grips with the fact that Shields has actually not been as bad as the public perception is. Don’t get me wrong, Shields isn’t a good pitcher. He’s only had two blowup starts so far this year and even though he’s due for another, I’m not going to go nuts with Baltimore tonight. Manny Machado might be the best offensive player that isn’t on the Red Sox or Angels and is certainly in play tonight. Mark Trumbo hit a homer last night and fits the bill of being cheap and a right handed bat.
Orioles Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo
Secondary Options – Jonathan Schoop, Adam Jones, Joey Rickard, Trey Mancini
Home Run Pick – Joey Rickard
