FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Wednesday, May 23
Pirates at Reds
Pirates Probable Starter – Chad Kuhl, RHP
4.53 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 22.2 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .281 average, .396 wOBA, 43.8 fly ball rate and 39.4 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .252 average, .317 wOBA, 32.5 fly ball rate and 32.9 hard contact rate
This has been true for his entire career, but Chad Kuhl is struggling with lefties pretty badly this season. With that being the case, give me ALL the Joey Votto tonight. He might just be one of my favorite plays on this entire slate and Scooter Gennett isn’t that far behind. Those two lead the Reds in wOBA against righties and they fit the profile for Kuhl’s struggles.
Don’t let Scott Schebler go unnoticed, either. He’s solid against righty pitching and he’s a bargain at $2,900. I won’t be playing Kuhl in any format tonight.
Reds Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Joe Votto, Scooter Gennett, Scott Schebler
Secondary Options – Tucker Barnhart
Reds Probable Starter – Homer Bailey, RHP
6.11 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 13.1 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .290 average, .399 wOBA, 43.3 fly ball rate and 32.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .293 average, .357 wOBA, 39.8 fly ball rate and 50.0 hard contact rate
The Pirate failed miserably against the ghost of Matt Harvey yesterday only to walk into another ridiculously good spot tonight. Bailey has been awful all season long and giving up that amount of fly balls won’t end well tonight in Cincinnati. It’s just a matter of trying to figure out who we want to play. Austin Meadows has raked since he’s come up and he’s still just $2,700.
I’ll likely have another Pirates stack somewhere tonight. This is a good time to remind everyone that it’s daily fantasy for a reason. You your best to not hold grudges over what a player did the night before.
Pirates Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Corey Dickerson, Francisco Cervelli, Colin Moran, Austin Meadows
Secondary Options – Josh Bell, Gregory Polanco, Josh Harrison
Home Run Pick – Joey Votto and Corey Dickerson
Red Sox at Rays
Red Sox Probable Starter – David Price, LHP
4.38 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 21.6 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .194 average, .249 wOBA, 34.6 fly ball rate and 19.2 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .247 average, .321 wOBA, 43.0 fly ball rate and 34.7 hard contact rate
I really wish this weren’t true but I think you have to have some interest in David Price. To be crystal clear, I don’t think he’s a very good pitcher anymore. I was plenty fine to stack against him in his last start and he threw a complete game, almost shutting out the Orioles. Tampa has started to come back to Earth against lefty pitching and Price sees a positive ball park shift pitching in Tampa.
Wilson Ramos might be out of the lineup tonight and that leaves C.J. Cron as the most dangerous hitter left. Denard Span has been good against lefties, but Price has controlled them pretty well so far. Price isn’t my cash pitcher but he’s on the radar for GPP’s.
Rays Hiters to Target
Elite Options – C.J. Cron
Secondary Options – Denard Span
Rays Probable Starter – Chris Archer, RHP
5.01 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 22.4 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .295 average, .370 wOBA, 27.6 fly ball rate and 38.6 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .234 average, .304 wOBA, 40.9 fly ball rate and 46.6 hard contact rate
Archer is still not pitching well enough for me to really think about playing him against anyone, let alone the Red Sox. Mookie Betts continued to destroy the world of baseball with another home run last night and even though Boston is expensive, they could be worth it.
Archer has seen a pretty significant drop in his strikeout rate and for all of his flaws, I’m not sure how many Sox hitters I’ll have. I don’t think it will happen but there’s a scenario where Archer is really good against a tough offense at home.
Red Sox Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Mitch Moreland
Secondary Options – Andrew Benintendi, Rafael Devers
Home Run Pick – C.J. Cron
