2018 NBA Mock Draft: What’s in store for the second round?

Say what you will, but Golden State does in fact need more shooting, especially in the regular season. You know Warriors coach Steve Kerr would provide Huerter an opportunity to play, and I believe he could stick in the rotation in his first or second season.

Huerter shot 42 percent from deep this season, as well as 60 percent on 2-pointers and 76 percent from the line. Over half of his total shots were 3s, and his spacing helped Maryland’s offense perform drastically better when he was on the court. You see on nights like Game 2 in Houston, when the opposing defense is ignoring Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala so thoroughly, how much it would help the Warriors to have just one more shooter with passable defense. They thought that guy would be Omri Casspi, but the truth is it’s difficult to sign that type of veteran to a minimum contract.

Instead, Golden State could draft one in the form of Huerter. Reporting from the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago this week, ESPN’s DraftExpress duo wrote of Huerter, “At 6-foot-6 with a readymade stroke and a strong feel for the game, Huerter is the type of wing NBA teams want… Teams will be watching how Huerter holds up defensively, as well as his ball skills and confidence level in a setting such as the combine as a 19-year-old.”

It will be interesting to see how Hurter fairs in the 5-on-5 drills against NBA-caliber players this week, and it could determine whether he is in play for a late-first round pick.
