If the Braves can keep control of the NL East with these trades
4. Curtis Granderson
The Blue Jays are falling out of the race in the AL East and it won’t be easy to catch the Yankees and Red Sox. With the Angels looking like they’ll be able to take the other Wild Card spot, the Blue Jays face an uphill climb to make the playoffs. So, they are looking to make expiring contracts available. Curtis Granderson would make a cheap addition for a Braves team in need of outfield depth.
Granderson will soon fall out of favor in Toronto, as they look to develop their young outfield of Teoscar Hernandez, Kevin Pillar, and Dwight Smith Jr. So, they should look to get something in return for him. The Braves, on the other hand, have been running Ronald Acuna Jr., Ender Inciarte, and Nick Markakis out every day. At the age of 34, Markakis isn’t going to keep hitting .344 playing every day. So, bringing in Granderson will allow Braves outfielders to have rest days.
Granderson shouldn’t be too expensive, as the Blue Jays want to bolster the pitching in their farm system, with many good hitters there lead by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. So, the Braves could send Joey Wentz and/or Touki Toussaint to the Blue Jays for Granderson.
