These teams might want to get on the phone about Hanley Ramirez
5. Philadelphia Phillies
One potential plan for Ramirez would be to place him in a high-priced platoon with a batter capable of hitting left-handed. The Phillies would be wise to implement this strategy. Ramirez could team with Carlos Santana to give their lineup a solid lift at the plate.
Santana’s first season in Philly has been pretty ugly. He’s only hitting .202 in 168 plate appearances. He does have eight home runs on the campaign, but the Phillies need more production out of their first base spot.
It’s worth noting here that Ramirez has hit the ball really well against left-handed pitching in a small sample size this year. His .333 average against southpaws is well above his .230 mark against right handed pitching.
Ramirez wouldn’t revolutionize the Phillies’ offense, but they are locked in a dog fight with the Braves, Mets and Nationals in a really crowded NL East race. Any move they can make to gain a small advantage could be just enough to earn them a playoff berth.
