4. Isco

What a difference a year makes.

It was around this time last season where Isco was finally showing everyone his incredible talents at Real Madrid. He’s been at the club since 2013 when he moved from Malaga, but it’s taken time for the Spaniard to break through. Under Zinedine Zidane last season, he enjoyed his play as a number 10 behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in a 4-3-1-2 formation.

He helped fire Madrid to a Liga and Champions League double. The 26-year-old must’ve thought this season would be his time to play a big number of games, but now finds himself unhappy with a lack of playing time.

Often starting on the bench, Isco is too good not to be starting. He’s only made nine starts in the league, clearly not what Isco expected coming into this season. His performance against Juventus in the quarterfinal first leg of the Champions League highlights his brilliance.

He has the uncanny ability to find space, create chances and link up play to the strikers. A decent finisher, he would fit perfectly at City as another creator, and possible David Silva replacement (the Spaniard is now 32 years old). Any player who can add goals from midfield is welcome to any team in modern soccer, he fits that profile.

Isco is one of the many players under the microscope at this summer’s World Cup. It’s usually a stage where players do their best in order to land a transfer, so City will be ready to pounce for his signature. It’ll cost a pretty penny, but it’s one worth going for. Just imagine Kevin De Bruyne and Isco in the same midfield.
