22. Bowling Green (Brown)

Unless you possess a somewhat deep knowledge of college football or unless you tune in to watch the “MACtion” on weeknights, you’ve likely heard little about Bowling Green. To summarize, it’s a small school of about 13,000, founded in the early 1900s. Although often mistaken with Bowling Green, Kentucky, Bowling Green State University is located in Ohio. Bowling Green, Ohio is located just south of Toledo, it’s more well-known sister city and home of the BGSU rival Toledo Rockets. Now that you know a little bit about the seemingly least-known school on this list, let’s dive into the uniforms.

The Bowling Green Falcons brown uniforms make this list because of the unique color scheme. Brown is not a very common color on the college football scene, but the Falcons wear it well. The brown and orange color scheme came about in the early 1900s when a BGSU board member saw a woman with an orange and brown feathered hat, which he enjoyed. Not the most exciting or historic origin of school colors, but fitting given the school.

The Falcons brown uniforms have a brown base with orange and white secondary colors. The plain-white shoulders and numbers give the uniform a clean look — especially when paired with the white helmet. Instead of an intricate shoulder design, Bowling Green takes a more practical approach and puts the numbers on the sleeve in orange with a brown outline. The MAC logo, Nike logo and school name are all in orange while the numbers and BGSU logo are outlined in orange. It’s certainly an odd color pairing which may be disliked by many. However, the rarity of brown pairing together nicely with anything lands the MAC school on the list.
