22. Phil Kessel’s hot-dog holder

My personal favorite story is that of beloved chubby guy and brother of Olympic gold medalist hockey star Amanda Kessel.

When Phil Kessel won his second Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he did what any of us would do. He brought the Cup to the golf course and filled it with a few juicy dogs. It also prompted this photo that I really wish I would have seen last week while writing the “25 best and worst tattoos in sports”:

The Kessel hot dog story is now a commonly known moment in hockey-lore. It’s a running joke on Twitter, sports websites and hockey households and is now also a collectible.

That’s right. This story is so perfectly Phil Kessel that the most popular card featuring the star winger is the one of him on the golf course with a Stanley Cup full of hot dogs. I love Kessel and I love the internet.

Kessel will get the chance to compete for another Cup next season, probably with a new team as he is currently reportedly being shopped around. Uh oh. While Kessel had a rough post season this year, he’s in a spot where better teams will be taking chances on him in hopes of post-season production.

Look for Kessel to be playing for another contender next season.
