Losing the former head coach for the Mississippi State Bulldogs Dan Mullen out to the Florida Gators is going to hurt this year. However, the former offensive coordinator of the Penn State Nittany Lions Joe Moorehead takes over instead.

Moorehead had himself a nice run as the offensive coordinator on the coaching staff with Penn State head coach James Franklin, nearly winning a couple Big Ten Championships. That offense featured tremendous talents such as quarterback Trace McSorley and superstar running back Saquon Barkley (who should start for the New York Giants this year).

Now, Moorehead has promised Mississippi State players and incoming recruits that this program will win a National Championship during his tenure in Starkville, MS. He’s promising a lot that is going to be hard to deliver in the SEC West, but he does have a quality quarterback in dual-threat Nick Fitzgerald to make things happen this fall.

If nothing else, watching the Joe Moorehead-era in Starkville will be fun for any SEC fan. For the sake of Mississippi State fans, let’s hope that rings true for them too. Mississippi State could be a top 15 program this season if Moorehead puts it all together right on both sides of the ball.
