Los Angeles Chargers — Randall Cobb

How much longer can Philip Rivers continue his magic act? Every season he elevates the players around him, managing a mediocre offensive line, or an injured one (or both), making mediocre receivers look much better than they are.

Los Angeles lacks cap flexibility and will need to make some moves to get back under the cap—they currently project to be about $6 million over— but can save $8 million cutting Corey Liuget and more than $5 million cutting Travis Benjamin after the 2018 season.

Rivers loves to chuck the ball downfield, but a player like Randall Cobb would give him an element he hasn’t recently had. Cobb offers the kind of short passing game versatility Danny Woodhead brought early in his career with the Chargers and Cobb can even play some in the backfield.

While Keenan Allen and Mike Williams work the deep and intermediate portion of the field, Cobb can play underneath and in the middle of the field where he’s so effective. With Rivers nearing the end of his career, the Chargers ought to be surrounding him with playmakers and if the Packers let Cobb walk, he’d make perfect sense in L.A.
