Montreal Canadiens: Viggo Mortensen

This one is tough for me to write about. As a Boston Bruins fan, I naturally harbor a burning hatred for the Montreal Canadiens. They are the most evil thing about the NHL, and it’s not even close.

At the same time, I’m about as big of a Lord of the Rings fan as you will find anywhere on this earth…or anywhere in Middle-Earth, if you will. When I was a little kid, I watched those movies for hours on end. I had the action figures and everything. I was the ultimate Lord of the Rings geek.

So it was pretty difficult for me to accept the fact that one of the biggest stars of Lord of the Rings, Viggo Mortensen, who plays the character of Aragorn in all three films, is a huge fan of my mortal enemy, the Montreal Canadiens. When filming the movies, Mortensen even went as far as to wear a Canadiens shirt underneath his armor, mainly during the famous Helm’s Deep battle scene from The Two Towers. Seriously, I thought Aragorn was one of the good guys?

All kidding aside, it’s actually a pretty cool thing that Mortensen is that big of a fan to wear his favorite team’s T-shirt underneath his costume while filming. That shows that even while he is doing work, he always has his team on his mind. That’s a mark of a true fan. I guess if he’s going to root for the Canadiens, at least he’s committed and dedicated.

But I knew there was always a reason I liked Legolas better.
