Minnesota Wild: Richard Dean Anderson

If you were around in the late 1980s, then you might remember Richard Dean Anderson starring in the popular television series MacGyver as the show’s main character, secret agent Angus MacGyver. In the show, MacGyver is a fan of the Calgary Flames.

That’s not the case for the actor, however, as Anderson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grew up in nearby Roseville. Naturally, while growing up, Anderson was a fan of the Minnesota North Stars. That team eventually moved to Texas and became the Dallas Stars, but Anderson jumped on the wagon with the Minnesota Wild when they arrived in 2000. He’s been supporting the team ever since.

Unfortunately for Anderson, the Wild haven’t had a whopping ton of playing success in their 18-year history thus far, although they did make a run to the Western Conference Finals in just their third year in the NHL. This year, the Wild were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, losing to the Winnipeg Jets in five games. Anderson will just have to keep his hopes up that things get turned around in the future.

In addition to the Wild, Anderson also supports the Vancouver Canucks after spending time in the city of Vancouver, mostly while filming Stargate SG-1. Anderson probably greatly enjoyed Vancouver’s run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, eventually losing to the Boston Bruins in seven games. But he claims that he will always root for his home state, and therefore the Wild will always come first in his eyes.
