4. Darren Sproles

Injuries limited Sproles to just three games last season. In somewhat of a surprising move, the Eagles elected to bring him back this year. He needs to stay healthy and produce for this team to help them return to the Super Bowl.

Jay Ajayi will clearly be the team’s number one option at running back, but he can’t take all of the team’s carries. The departure of LaGarrette Blount should open up some potential carries for Sproles. They aren’t similar players, but Blount soaked up a ton of touches for the Eagles last year. Sproles can take on some of that responsibility in a completely different fashion.

Of course, his biggest impact on the offense will likely come in the passing game. Despite his small stature, he’s made a career out of being a top-notch third down back. The Eagles’ passing attack means he can play on any down.

Specifically, look for the Eagles to use screen passes to Sproles to try to slow down the opposing pass rush. Keeping Wentz safe and secure will be a huge priority for the Eagles this season. Having Sproles available to turn short passes into big gains will be an integral part of keeping Wentz healthy.
