F/C. Michigan State. Jaren Jackson Jr.. 4. player. 211.

Memphis looks to be the best fit for either of the combo bigs in the top five this year, Jackson or Marvin Bagley III. With Marc Gasol in place, they should be able to develop the frontcourt talent much better, affording these rookies the benefit of defensive protection and one of the smartest offensive bigs in the league to set the table. Jackson, a prototypical modern big man, could easily slide in next to Gasol.

In fact, the Grizzlies’ spacing might even be better with Jackson in place of JaMychal Green or Jarrell Martin. Jackson offers legitimate 3-point shooting, having nailed 40 percent of those looks as a freshman. He is also a fantastic rim protector, someone who could make Gasol’s life easier for the remainder of his time in Memphis considering the Spaniard’s deteriorating athleticism. Both players would be helped by playing together.

There are concerns about Jackson’s finishing ability and foul rate, two qualities which should improve for him as he adds muscle and size moving into the NBA. He will also benefit from playing in an NBA offense, heavier on the pick-and-roll, with more opportunities to throw down dunks and make plays in space.

If the Hawks take Jackson at 3, that leaves Memphis with Bagley, where many of the same positives would come of a partnership with Gasol.
