Kayvon Webster – Cornerback

Webster was nothing but solid last year as a starting cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately, 11 games into his best season as an NFL starter he ruptured his Achilles tendon ultimately ending his campaign in 2017. The Rams traded for Pro Bowl corners Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters in April so bringing back an injured Webster was not in their plans.

Webster was a third round pick out of South Florida in 2013 and has developed into a pretty good corner. He is a very physical player and is a nightmare for receivers when playing press defense. Unlike most cornerbacks in the NFL, Webster welcomes contact and can hit like a safety. He has a great combination of speed, athleticism and aggression which teams will no doubt find as a nice commodity when he is signed.

The downside to Webster right now is that he’s not healthy yet. Early in the offseason he underwent shoulder surgery and is still recovering from a ruptured Achilles which he suffered towards the end of last season. If Webster didn’t have these injury concerns he would have been off the market a long time ago.

Once Webster is healthy he will no doubt make a noticeable impact for any secondary. As teams are always in search for a physical cornerback who has the athletic ability and coverage skills such as Webster.

Possible Landing Spot – Kansas City Chiefs

It has been a while since the Kansas City Chiefs have needed defensive help. The loss of key defensive guys in the secondary like safety Ron Parker and All-Pro corner Marcus Peters will make a team bring out the help wanted signs. Webster could make a massive impact for a defense that will have many unfamiliar faces on it come Week 1 as he is already a proven cornerback with experience.

Second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be the starter this season and any help he can get from his defense to take some unwanted pressure off him would be a great asset to his progression as a starting NFL quarterback.
