1. Kelvin Herrera

Herrera will be the reliever generating the most interest ahead of the trade deadline. He may not be the perfect addition for the Yankees, but expect Cashman to kick the tires on acquiring him at the very least.

The Royals know they’re going nowhere this season. The fact that Herrera will be an unrestricted free agent after this season makes it imperative for Kansas City to deal him before the deadline. They’ll do their best to start a bidding war for their closer.

It’s hard to imagine Herrera pitching much better than he has this season. His 0.79 ERA in 24 outings shows just how dominating he’s been. Curiously, Herrera doesn’t have great stuff. He’s only struck out 19 batters in 22 innings. As opposed to blowing hitters away, Herrera does a little more pitching to contact.

The Yankees front office shouldn’t overthink this one. If they get the chance to rent Herrera for anything less than a top-notch prospect they have to make the move. Re-signing him after his current deal certainly wouldn’t be out of the question. Herrera could become the perfect bridge to Aroldis Chapman in the New York bullpen.
