NBA Free Agency 2018: 5 offseason targets for the Phoenix Suns
By Daniel Lewis
Bradley is coming off one of his worst seasons as a professional, as he battled to come back from a variety of injuries. The 27-year-old has developed a reputation as an excellent perimeter defender, and has worked to improve his game since he was drafted nineteenth overall in the 2010 draft.
Bradley has long been limited as a playmaker as a point guard — he lacks the vision and ball-handling to lead an offense from that position. But he’s fully capable of knocking down a 3-pointer or attacking a closeout to walk into a mid-range jumper. If the system allows him to rebound, he’s able to grab missed shots and get the ball into transition, where he’s able to attack in the open court.
The Suns had the worst defense in the league last season, allowing 113.3 points per game. With Devin Booker starting at the other guard position, the Suns are going to need at least one guard that can play defense. With Booker capable of being the primary ballhandler for the Suns, Bradley can provide the defense that they are sorely lacking on the perimeter. That can allow Booker to mark the less dangerous guard, allowing him to conserve his energy a tad.
