NBA Free Agency 2018: 5 offseason targets for the Phoenix Suns
By Daniel Lewis
The Utah big man will be 27 years old when the 2018-19 season begins, but he’s seen his role with the Jazz diminish as he’s entered into the prime of his career with the emergence of Rudy Gobert. Favors is a more traditional power forward in league where his skill set is not as valuable as it used to be, and he’s having to transition into more of a center role in order to stay relevant in the modern NBA.
Favors is a strong rim protector and rebounder, and while he doesn’t have 3-point range, is capable of getting buckets with a physical interior game. He’s not as much of a post-up threat, or a lob threat, but he’s an experienced veteran that can still do a little of both.
The Suns have a veteran big man under contract already in Tyson Chandler, but the former NBA Champion has a lot of miles on his knees and back, and shouldn’t be counted on for a lot of production going forward. With the Suns poised to take DeAndre Ayton with the first pick, Ayton would have two excellent mentors in Chandler and Favors, with the latter also able to contribute on the court alongside him in the starting lineup.
