Golf’s second major of the year is the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has given fans some of the most electrifying moments in golf at the most historic venues in the country. This year is no different.

Shinnecock Hills in Southhampton, New York, is home to the 2018 U.S. Open. It is one of golf’s hardest tests. Unlike the Masters’ tournament, the U.S. Open rotates through a cycle of courses across America. The last time the U.S. Open was at Shinnecock was 2004 and the champion was Retief Goosen, who beat out Phil Mickelson on Sunday. Since 2004 there have been multiple renovations done to make the course even more challenging.

The town of Southhampton, New York, is full of beaches, shopping and dining options, making it one of the premier tourist destinations in Long Island. Southhampton is also a town full of history and culture. There are multiple museums and cultural centers all tourists should look to check out.

Looking to head to Southhampton to check out the U.S. Open? There are still tickets for sale through the USGA Website. Once you have your tickets you need to figure out how to get to the course. The major airports near Shinnecock Hills like John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia are both around 80 miles away. If you are lucky enough to find a flight to Long Island McArthur Airport you are just 36 miles away.

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has announced a new stop for the tournament. The LIRR is approximately a two-hour ride from New York’s Penn Station. If you choose to drive there is an off-site parking location at the Francis S. Gabreski Airport. From there, fans are taken to the course by shuttle. Full directions can be found on the USGA website.

One of Shinnecock Hill’s landmarks is the clubhouse. It sits at the highest point of the course and overlooks the entire course. It has an iconic design and is a clear signal for patrons and golfers to look for. In an otherwise low profile landscape, the clubhouse pops on the horizon.
