1. New York Mets – Sell

It might seem obvious to most people that a team sitting 9.5 games back in the division should be looking to sell off assets at this point in the season. Evidently it isn’t that obvious for Sandy Alderson. Thus far, the Mets GM continues to stubbornly hold on to every meaningful asset the club possesses.

Most Mets fans would like to see the team hold on to Jacob deGrom but that just isn’t a practical decision for the team. No one is questioning whether or not he’s a dominant starting pitcher. He has the talent and experience to be an ace for every team in baseball.

The appropriate question is whether or not he’s the correct age to help this team when they’ve acquired and developed enough talent to win again. That answer is no. As such, he should be dealt.

DeGrom isn’t alone though, he has quite a few teammates that should be on their way out the door too. Asdrubal Cabrera is another name that could generate serious interest on the trade market. He’s not hitting for a great average this season but his 11 home runs should interest a lot of teams. There’s certainly no point in New York holding on to him given his current age.

The only player who should really be off-limits at the moment is Noah Syndergaard. He’s hurt at the moment, but the fact that he’s just 25-years-old means he can be important for this team when they’re to contend again. Outside of him, the Mets should be selling everyone else to the highest bidder.
