Russia face Saudi Arabia at Luzhniki Stadium on Thursday, June 14. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Being the host country in the World Cup has its perks, in both the ease of their group and home field advantage. Russia gets to kick off the tournament against Saudi Arabia, who might be the weakest nation in the entire competition. Group A is also one of, if not the weakest in the World Cup.

Russia were a Pot 1 team, and would’ve had a tough time qualifying in most other circumstances. Uruguay and Egypt round out the rest, allowing the hosts to have a reasonable shot at going through to the knockout rounds. They’ll need to get three points from this opening day to feel good about their chances, though.

Saudi Arabia will go into the World Cup with little to no expectations, given their quality. They’re inexperienced and one of the lowest ranked teams in FIFA’s world rankings. However, because Group A is so weak with Russia being the Pot 1 side, the Green Falcons might fancy a couple of shock results to sneak their way to the round of 16. If they are to do that, they’ll likely need to start with a win against the hosts.
