NBA Free Agency 2018: One reason LeBron James should sign with every team
By Ben Ladner
Dallas Mavericks
James has made his admiration for Dennis Smith known, and Rick Carlisle is one of the sharpest coaches in the league. Dirk is Dirk. Harrison Barnes could offer cover for LeBron on defense; that pair would be able to switch across several positions, and Barnes would be better off dropping a spot in the offensive pecking order. Wesley Matthews, provided he hasn’t slowed down too much is the sort of 3-and-D player that could help a contender.
But even adding LeBron wouldn’t be enough to drag that team past the first couple of playoff rounds. The Mavs would have too little depth and, more crucially, too little talent to compete in earnest.
