Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship

AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

For the fourth straight pay-per-view, WWE Champion AJ Styles will put his title on the line against Shinsuke Nakamura. Styles won a great match at WrestleMania 34 but no clear winner was decided in the next two bouts at the Greatest Royal Rumble event and Backlash. Nakamura does hold a victory over Styles, however, picking up a win on SmackDown Live which allowed him to put this Last Man Standing stipulation in. Here’s my problem with that. So we have the No Disqualification Match at Backlash. Fine, no problem…except that had nothing to do with the double countout in Saudi Arabia. So then we get a draw at Backlash as neither man was able to answer a 10-count. So now we have a Last Man Standing Match. But last time, neither man could answer a 10-count. So what does this solve? But that’s just me nitpicking, I suppose. This is going to be a great match regardless of the stipulation. I know people have been expecting more from these two but every single bout between these guys has been good…minus that last ending anyway. Expect a good one here.

Prediction: Since Nakamura’s heel turn, this program has been built on stipulations (and groin shots) and next month’s Extreme Rules sets up even more of that so I don’t think this thing is over. I think WWE wants to run this thing through SummerSlam so I think Shinsuke finally wins the WWE Championship here and we get another couple of months out of this. A win for Nakamura shakes things up a bit and could give it a fresh feel.
