SALT LAKE CITY, UT – JANUARY 15: Derrick Favors /

13. Derrick Favors

While still only 26, it sort of feels as if Derrick Favors has been in the league at least a decade, providing dependable if unspectacular minutes at the power forward position for the Jazz for quite a while. Favors, the number three pick in the 2010 Draft, has never developed into a star, but he is still sixth in that draft class in overall win shares after eight seasons in the NBA. He is a good rebounder, and reliable scorer, albeit one with a fairly limited ways of putting it in the hoop: his post up game is solid enough, and he also displays an above average midrange shot, shooting over forty percent from 10 to 16 feet last season. However, he’s not great at creating for himself as nearly eighty percent of his field goals were assisted last season.

Favors is good at what he does, and appears to be getting better as last season he shot better than ever before – over 56 percent – while also posting the highest net rating of his career. He will be 27 at the start of the upcoming season so this next contract will likely cover the entirety, or at least the majority, of his prime. Perhaps the big question regarding Favors is how relevant his skill set is in the modern NBA, and also how valuable it is to the Jazz when they have Rudy Gobert already. Perhaps he could start at power forward alongside Gobert and then play black up center, spelling Gobert at other points throughout the game, but it’s unclear if the Jazz will be willing to commit the money necessary for Favors to play that particular role. He’s good, a worthy pick up for most teams, but just not a world changer or anyone to get that excited about.
