Poland and Senegal begin their World Cup Group H schedules in Russia with a duel in Moscow on June 19. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Poland had a golden era back in the 1970s and early 1980s. The 1972 Olympic gold medalists finished third in the 1974 World Cup. They followed that up with advancement to the second round in 1978, and another third place finish in 1982. A round of 16 appearance in 1986 marked the end of an era, and Poland spent the next decade out of the World Cup. A return in 2002 and 2006 wasn’t sustained through the past two cycles.

Thus Poland are returning for the first time in a dozen years. Robert Lewandowski was only 17 at the time, so this is his first World Cup appearance. He scored more than half of Poland’s goals in UEFA qualifying to reach the 2018 World Cup. With 16 goals in 10 matches, the Bayern Munich striker outscored Cristiano Ronaldo by a goal to lead all scorers in European qualifying.

Poland’s opponent in their Group H opener is Senegal. The African qualifiers are back in the tournament for the first time since 2002. That year, the Senegalese squad surprised defending World Cup champions France en route to the quarterfinals. They finally get a second chance to make a big impression on the world stage after going undefeated through two rounds of CAF qualifying.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mané is the catalyst for Senegal’s chances in Russia. But he has plenty of talented support, with six other members of the 23-man roster plying their trade in the Premier League. Seven other players feature in France, as all but one of the squad play on European clubs.

Senegal might have a more individually talented squad, but Poland have the best pure scorer in the bunch. You definitely won’t want to miss the Tuesday showdown between the Poles and the Senegalese live from Moscow’s Spartak Stadium.

Senegal will be excited to make waves in the country’s second ever appearance in the World Cup. Poland also know how rare these opportunities can be, and players like Lewandowski realize this could be their only shot on the globe’s premier stage. Both sides will be pressed to get three points in this contest given the challenges remaining against Colombia and Japan.

This match will help determine which team finishes second in Group H. With Colombia the favorite, a decisive result in Poland-Senegal will give the winner the inside track to advance to the knockout stage. Look for Lewandowski to score his first-ever World Cup goal(s) as Poland prevail in the opener.
