3. Kevin Knox – New York Knicks

At 18 years of age Knox is going to need some time and space to blossom into a legitimate NBA player. Unfortunately for the former Kentucky wing, he’s going to the biggest media market in the league. That, combined with his draft position is going to put a lot of pressure on him to produce right away.

That brings becoming a draft bust into play for Knox. He’s got the talent to succeed at the next level, but he could be crushed under the weight of immediate expectations in the Big Apple.

The key to Knox’s chances to succeed at the next level will be for David Fizdale to bring him along very slowly. The Knicks coaching staff needs to drown out all of the media noise about their talented rookie. He should only play minutes when he proves he’s ready for them in practice.

If you see Knox playing big minutes in the Garden early in the season, look for him to have a very difficult time achieving early success. That could cause his confidence to go in the tank.

Kevin Knox has the talent to become an All-Star. The question is whether or not he will be given the time and space to develop with the Knicks. He could have really benefited from landing in a smaller market with smaller expectations. Instead, he’s going to be thrown into the fire of the Big Apple cauldron.
