3. Houston Astros

Could the rich really get richer? The Astros are starting to create some distance in the AL West, with eight wins in their last 10 games (14 wins in their last 16 contests) as the Seattle Mariners have started to fade during a tough stretch in their schedule (4-6 in their last 10).

After a fairly mediocre start this season (.262, .799 OPS, five home runs, 23 RBI through May 31), Alex Bregman has a .907 OPS with six home runs and 19 RBI in June.

So the Astros probably aren’t seriously in the market for a third baseman, Yuli Gurriel is hitting .300 at first base and Evan Gattis has found himself again as their primary DH (.287, .992 OPS with 13 home runs since May 12-35 games, 122 at-bats).

That said, Beltre surely wants a World Series ring before his career is over.

Even if it means stepping into a less than regular role, and becoming a bench player for the first time, his ability to block a trade (with 10-and-5 rights) would then probably go by the wayside if the Astros were the suitor with the deal the Rangers want to accept.
