5 bold predictions for the New York Jets in 2018
1. Sam Darnold will be the Offensive ROY
The Jets coaching staff insists the race to be the team’s starting quarterback is still wide open. With all due respond to Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater, there can only be one winner in the end. Sooner or later, Sam Darnold is going to take his place at the controls of the Jets’ offense.
He’s absolutely the future of the franchise and he’s arguably the most ready rookie quarterback in his draft class. Darnold isn’t one of those rookie signal callers that needs to sit and watch the game for a year or two. He’s ready to learn on the job. It’ll be shocking if Bowles doesn’t give him that opportunity.
The year won’t go perfectly for Darnold despite his talent. He’ll throw the ball to the other team too often and he’ll miss some reads. Still, the good will end up heavily outweighing the bad. His big arm is going to give the Jets’ passing game an element of danger that opposing defenses haven’t felt in several years.

Darnold will certainly be the most productive rookie quarterback this season. The only thing that might prevent him from being the best offensive rookie in 2018 is if a quarterback comes out of nowhere to post big numbers. Bet on Darnold to throw for enough yards to prevent that from happening. He’s got too much talent not to be an immediate success for the Jets.
