NBA Free Agency 2018: 5 best centers available
1. DeMarcus Cousins
One has to feel bad for DeMarcus Cousins. The poor guy tore his Achilles the year before he hit free agency. It creates all sorts of questions regarding his ability to return to the form he once had. Can he still be the player who averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds per game before his injury? The guy who carried the Kings with 27 points and 11 rebounds per game in 2016-2017.
Any team looking for a big time player this free agency cannot know the answer to that. What they can know, is that he is the most talented center available. While he may be a hothead, he can still block shots, rebound, and score.
In New Orleans, Cousins averaged 1.5 blocks per game, while sharing the big man defensive work with Anthony Davis. He can still alter shots at the rim. Plus, he averaged 12.7 rebounds per games in New Orleans, demonstrating that he has the capability of being a high volume rebounder.
All of that aside, he deserves to be paid big money in free agency solely from his offensive prowess. Before injury last year, he showed the confidence to take 6.1 three pointers per game which he converted 35% of the time. It helped him on his way to averaging 25.2 points per game with a 58.3 true shooting percentage.
Cousins can put the ball in the hole while doing everything else asked of him. The most talented center available this year deserves to be paid like it despite his injury.
