Even after two wins in the group stage, Mexico is still not guaranteed a spot in the round of 16 just yet. A draw would guarantee El Tri a birth in the next round, but a multiple goal loss, combined with a multiple goal win for Germany, would see them in third place in Group F.
Knowing this situation, however unlikely it is, exists, Mexico could decide to play a more defensive unit to ensure their place in the knockout rounds. However, that’s not how they’ve won the past two matches against Germany and South Korea, so it would be surprising to see the change now.
Sweden were under a minute away from a historic victory against Germany in the last match, but came up just short after Tony Kroos curled home a vicious set piece in the 95th minute. Their road to the next round is much harder without that crucial point, as they need a win or a draw with Germany losing to South Korea. Sweden aren’t clinical going forward and will likely not have as many chances as they did against Germany, so they need to pick their spots.
