1. Anywhere there’s a perceived contender

The amount of teams with ample cap space this summer is not plentiful. Still, a player like Wayne Ellington could probably max out on his talents at about $10 million per season. If he wants to do that and there’s no real reason not to, he should definitely do that. Returning to Miami or signing with the likes of Charlotte, Orlando, Dallas, Atlanta would all accomplish such a goal.

Ellington is by no means a pauper, but his career also has not paid him as well as some of his basketball brethren. Cashing in now is a sound decision for life after basketball, and some teams will be able to offer him a few million more than other teams.

But, if Ellington wants to play in meaningful playoff games because such opportunities are, in some ways, rarer than money, he should do that. And, if possible, he could do both—however, such a perfect choice may be hard to come by, at least this summer.

But, from a basketball standpoint, Ellington would fit seamlessly with any team aiming to win in May and June. After all, he can shoot from anywhere.
