Toronto Blue Jays: Josh Donaldson

There was a time recently where the Toronto Blue Jays looked like they would eventually be the top team in the AL East, as they were pretty dominant in 2015 and 2016. However, with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox reloading, the Blue Jays have fallen back on hard times, and it looks like they should start blowing up the roster.

In 2018, the Blue Jays find themselves out of the race for the AL East already, and this is only a week into July. With some good young players in the minor leagues, the Blue Jays need to start unloading some of their veteran talent for some prospects, and Josh Donaldson could be a name on the move.

Donaldson has had some incredible years during his time in Toronto, including being named American League Most Valuable Player in 2015. A power-hitting third baseman, Donaldson was an All Star in three straight seasons in Toronto, but has been hit with the injury bug since then, and because he will be a free agent this Winter, the Blue Jays will go another route with the third base position.

If the Blue Jays do decide to trade away Donaldson, they will have his replacement waiting in their own farm system. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is ready to be an everyday Major Leaguer, and he should be with the team in a full-time role during the 2019 season.

Donaldson still has some pop in his bat, and would bring back a nice return for the Blue Jays if they decide to pull the trigger on a trade this summer. He is currently on the disabled list, and questions still linger as to when he will be back, but he could help a contender down the stretch.
