Cincinnati Reds: Matt Harvey

There was a time when Cincinnati Reds right-hander Matt Harvey was one of the best young pitchers in all of baseball. Playing the role of “Dark Knight” as a member of the New York Mets, he helped lead the team to the World Series back in 2015, but everything has gone wrong ever since.

The once beloved member of the Mets was basically given to the Reds a couple of months ago, as he was traded for catcher Devin Mesoraco. However, Harvey has actually shown signs of life since joining the Reds, and the team may be able to get something for him after all if they decide to trade him.

Harvey will be a free agent this Winter, so he is really pitching for his next big contract. If he can somehow find himself on a contender, he will likely be given a chance to make a statement on a big stage this Fall, and that could in turn put his career back on track.

The truth is, Harvey needs to learn how to pitch, as he just does not have the amazing stuff that he had when he came into the Major Leagues and started blowing everybody away. He does, however, have an earned run average under 4.00 since coming to the Reds, and it looks like the pressure of playing in the Big Apple has helped his attitude as well.

The Reds are absolutely terrible again this season, and you have to think that this franchise needs a complete re-do if they are ever going to challenge in the NL Central. Harvey is not a part of their long-term plan, and with him pitching decently, the time is now to capitalize on his right arm.
