As the creator of the Pym Particle, Hank Pym is the genius behind the technology of Ant-Man and the Wasp. He was a central figure in the first film and remains that way in the sequel, intimately connected with his daughter Hope and with Scott. Does he survive?

Warning: Major spoilers will follow for Ant-Man and the Wasp

Hank travels into the Quantum Realm to reunite with his wife Janet van Dyne and bring her back. There’s a sense of finality in his last lines with his daughter Hope, Scott, and Bill Foster before going into the Quantum Realm, strongly hinting this will be Hank’s last great adventure. Things start to look pretty bleak when he begins losing his mind. Fortunately, Janet shows up to save her husband’s sanity and his life as the two lovers experience their long-awaited reunion, this time in the flesh instead of via Scott.

Hank and Janet successfully leave the Quantum Realm, both of them surviving and experiencing an emotional family reunion with Hope. Despite that finality in his earlier words, Hank was very much still alive and seemed to be in the clear.

The mid-credits scene snatched that relief away from audiences as Hank became a victim of Thanos’ snap. Hank disappeared along with Hope and Janet. He is dead in the same way that Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wanda Maximoff, and countless others are dead at the end of Infinity War. With future movies already lined up for many of these characters, it’s obvious that Spider-Man and many of the others who perished during the snap will return. Hope has already teased that she’s going to team up with Captain Marvel in Avengers 4.

For Hank Pym this means that while he’s currently deceased, his condition doesn’t seem like it’ll last. He is poised to return along with his daughter, wife, Spider-Man, and all the rest. The question mark about Hope’s return at the end of the Ant-Man and the Wasp credits aren’t fooling anyone.
