1. Los Angeles Dodgers

The moment All-Star shortstop Corey Seager landed on the shelf for the year with an elbow injury, the rumors linking the Dodgers to Manny Machado started swirling. At the time of Seager’s injury, the Dodgers were floundering and needed a boost at the plate. That’s not exactly the case as the deadline approaches. Los Angeles has been on a tear and has nearly taken over the lead in the NL West.

Still, it’s hardly out of the question that the Dodgers would consider making a run at Machado to man shortstop for the rest of the season.

Over the past two years, Andrew Friedman has shed his reputation for being overly cautious with trading prospects away for rentals. The Dodgers made a big move for Rich Hill and Josh Reddick in 2016 and rented Yu Darvish last year. Word on the street is that top prospect Alex Verdugo has already been offered to the Orioles for Machado. The 23-year-old outfielder is ready to step into an MLB lineup immediately, but has not been able to crack the deep roster in Los Angeles.

Machado to the Dodgers makes the most sense, and the Orioles would be wise to focus most of their energy here. Los Angeles has a very deep farm system and should be going all in on the 2018 season. The Dodgers will always be able to field a contender thanks to their deep pockets, but last year’s trip to the World Series should motivate ownership to make sure a title finally comes to LA after three decades. This landing spot made the most sense two months ago, and it still makes the most sense as the Orioles look to get this deal done.
