Atlanta Braves – Freddie Freeman, First Base

Now that I won’t be able to show my face in Atlanta for while, this isn’t a very likely scenario. There’s every chance that Freeman will win the National League MVP this year. For what it’s worth, Giancarlo Stanton was the 2017 N.L. MVP with the Miami Marlins and he’s in New York now. Of course, it’s not really the same situation between the Marlins and the Braves but accolades don’t stop the Yankees. When they want a player, they tend to get him(sometimes with help from said player not accepting trades to other teams).

New York is going to want an upgrade from Greg Bird at first base as his career has not really materialized to this point. There really isn’t a bigger upgrade at first base than Freeman. He’s dominating this year with a .328 average, .986 OPS, .241 ISO and a .414 wOBA. On top of that, Freeman only is striking out at a 17.8 rate and that would be a major boost to a lineup that has a tp 10 strikeout rate in baseball.  Freeman is still owed another $65 million through 2021 and that is virtually pennies for his production and a team with the resources like the Yankees. It’s also a very fair contract for the Braves, so this trade wouldn’t be a possibility until Freeman is coming up on the end of his contract. There’s a scenario where Freeman will price himself out of Atlanta after age 30.

Every team in baseball should be calling to see the price on players like Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuna but there is zero reason for the Braves to deal them. Freeman will be entering his age-30 season next year and that seems like the perfect time for Atlanta to sell him at his absolutely highest price possible before he starts to slide back just a bit. A lineup of Judge, Stanton and Freeman sitting in the middle of the order is borderline unfair for other pitchers and would be a terrifying version of the Bronx Bombers.
