After major contributions in the postseason, Jayson Tatum’s NBA 2K rating has skyrocketed to 87 overall.

Various overall ratings in NBA 2K19 continue to be leaked, even though the game will be released in the fall. Celtics small forward Jayson Tatum not-so-quietly became the talk of the league with his strong playoff performance and his NBA 2K rating reflects that.

First, an increase was expected. Despite injuries to star players, Tatum and Jaylen Brown pushed Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals. Tatum squared-off against his idol, LeBron James. In the end, the Cleveland Cavaliers squeaked by to earn a spot in the Finals. What Tatum showed in the playoffs is going to show up in the game as well.

His current rating is five points higher than 2K18. To be frank, his stats speak louder than anything else. As the Celtics’ season progressed, so did rook’s numbers. Tatum played in 80 games for Boston. Moreover, he scored just under 14 points per contest. However, he notched 18 points per game during the playoffs and shot 43 percent from beyond the arc.

On the flip side, his stats were able to thrive due to the absence of key players. With Gordon Hayward due to return sometime in 2018-19, Tatum may see a significant decrease in playing time. Nonetheless, his heart and hustle will be a crucial piece somewhere in the puzzle. After all, Hayward won’t play nearly as many minutes  when he first returns to the hardwood.

LeBron James’ Eastern Conference departure has also left a giant hole. Tatum may excel with more attention as the Celtics become the conference favorite. Pairing with Kyrie Irving, Hayward and all of Boston’s depth could make them a new Eastern Conference dynasty. In this case, Boston may be adding a couple more banners into TD Garden.
