18. San Antonio Spurs

The One Trade To End Them All did not come together as we expected, but it’s finally here.

The Spurs have reportedly sent Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to the Raptors in exchange for Jakob Poeltl, DeMar DeRozan and a protected first round pick.

It’s a discouraging return compared to some of the other deals that were rumored from teams like the Lakers, but Poeltl is young and interesting and DeRozan will help keep San Antonio competitive for the rest of Popovich’s tenure with the team. There will be some jabs at DeRozan’s shot selection but his ability to break down the defense off the dribble is something the Spurs haven’t had for awhile.

The real core of this team, with or without Leonard, is made up of Dejounte Murray and Lonnie Walker IV, two first-round picks who could form an electric modern backcourt in no time. The departure of Tony Parker, to a new team in Charlotte rather than retirement, puts the truth in stark reality — the Spurs dynasty as we know it is gone.
