4. Norman Powell

After looking like he was headed for a breakout during the 2017 playoffs (44.1 percent from beyond the arc; 16.7 points per-36 minutes), Powell fell out of the Raptors’ rotation last year as OG Anunoby and Delon Wright emerged. Hip and ankle injuries took him out of the lineup for brief stretches, but a presumption of better health and a four-year, $42 million contract set to kick in points to a bigger role for Powell going forward.

DeRozan is leaving behind a 29.6 percent usage rate from last year, even with a slight downturn in shot attempts (17.7 per game). Green is set to step into some of that shot volume as he comes in from the Spurs, but Powell is a candidate to replace DeRozan as Toronto’s starting two-guard.

Powell is probably a better defensive player than DeRozan, as new Raptors head coach Nick Nurse very quickly pointed to demanding more from DeRozan on that end of the floor. Powell can now team with Leonard to help Toronto lock down the opposition’s top wing players.

Powell will have to be more efficient on the offensive end than he was last year though. More three-point shooting (6.3 attempts per 36 minutes) came at less than 29 percent clip, and 2.2 turnovers per-36 will not cut it.

DeRozan’s departure opens up an opportunity for Powell. It’s up to him to seize it.
