The Anaheim Ducks unveiling the Mighty Ducks logo on their third jersey officially gives them the best jersey in the NHL.

When every NHL team reverted to Adidas as their jersey manufacturer last season, it came with the egregious caveat that there would be no third jerseys. It’s a shame, because the rare occasion when a team sports a new look is always cause for excitement.

They’ve rectified that by reintroducing third jerseys for the 2018-19 season. We’ve seen a few so far, but the pattern for the most successful ones has been bringing back an old design. As it stands, it’s hard to argue against the Arizona Coyotes having the best third jersey because of the old logo.

Given that it’s the Anaheim Ducks’ 25th season, they had to do something special. And they did, by bringing back the Mighty Ducks logo:

Not only is it a throwback to the team’s Mighty Ducks days, it’s a throwback to one of the most beloved sports movie franchises ever. It’s a brilliant decision on their part. Even though they could’ve come out with something elaborate to celebrate their 25th season, they went with something familiar because why fix something that isn’t broken?

The only thing preventing this from being a perfect jersey is the teal, which resembles the San Jose Sharks too closely. Considering they’re coming off a sweep of the Ducks, they’re not going to take too kindly to that. Then again, anything to raise the stakes of the rivalry.

The Ducks seem to love bringing back the Mighty Ducks for special occasions. When it was their 20th anniversary, they wore the logo for one night only against the Ottawa Senators. But the fact that it’ll be worn throughout the season this time, and will be put on sale, means that these could be one of the fastest jerseys to fly off the shelf. Here’s hoping we see Emilio Estevez in the crowd whenever the Ducks wear these.
