Benjamin Pavard

France won the World Cup largely due to the contributions of a group of players that manager Didier Deschamps trusted for the majority of the tournament. Some of those players, like Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe and N’Golo Kante, were known quantities going into the competition.

Others, like Benjamin Pavard, came into their own during their time in Russia.

At just 22 years old, Pavard was a key part of France’s defense at the World Cup, making life difficult for opposing strikers and forwards. He even scored his first international goal at the World Cup, one of the best goals of the entire tournament.

Pavard was a workhorse for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga in 2017-18. He didn’t miss a single second of action, appearing in all 34 games for the club. Despite finishing seventh in the Bundesliga, Stuttgart’s defense conceded the second-fewest goals in the league with 36. Pavard has proven himself as one of the better young players in a very good league, and predictably, larger clubs have begun to show interest.

Bayern Munich have reportedly begun “discussions” with Pavard over a potential move, per RMC. Spurs have also made their interest known in Pavard, likely as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld should he leave the club.

Moving to either club would significantly raise Pavard’s profile. He would also have the opportunity to play in the Champions League by joining either Bayern or Spurs, and likely even a chance at winning it with the former. Pavard has an opportunity to make a career-altering decision, and it will be interesting to see where the promising French defender ends up.
